Do I really only need one coat?
For most new or previously treated fence panels, one coat provides full coverage and protection. On very bare, dry, or absorbent timber, a second coat may improve depth of colour and durability. Always follow the instructions on the tin.
What’s the coverage per litre?
Ronseal Fence Life covers approximately 5m² per litre on rough sawn timber. The 9L + 33% free volume covers around 60m² — suitable for a full garden fence or a combination of fence, shed, and gate.
Can I apply it with a brush or sprayer?
Yes — apply with a large fence brush, a roller, or a garden sprayer for fastest coverage on panels. A brush is best for posts, rails, and detail work.
When is the best time to apply it?
Apply in dry weather when temperatures are above 10°C. Avoid applying in direct strong sunlight or when rain is forecast within 4–6 hours. Spring and early autumn are ideal conditions.
Is it safe around plants and grass?
Allow the product to dry fully (typically 4 hours) before allowing contact with plants and grass. Cover beds and lawns adjacent to the fence during application if possible.
Water-based wood stain and preservative. Suitable for exterior use on softwood fence panels, posts, sheds and gates.
