DOUGLAS METHYLATED SPIRITS 2L
Douglas Methylated Spirits is used as a solvent for knotting solutions, spirit-based varnishes, some spirit-based paints and French Polish. It can also be used as a cleaner for paintwork and glassware, and for wiping resinous matter from knots before applying Douglas Patent Knotting. It is sometimes used as fuel for heating or cooking. It is a denatured spirit which gives a clean flame. It is mixed with a small quantity of Methanol to make it unfit for human consumption and dyed purple.
Methylated Spirits is a denatured alcohol, essentially ethanol made unfit for drinking by adding methanol and dye (often purple). It's a versatile solvent and fuel, commonly used for thinning French polish, varnishes, and spirit-based paints, as a cleaner for glass and paintwork, and as a fuel in spirit burners, offering a clean flame.
