Using good quality compost, sow seeds in a propagator and cover with 6 mm (1/4") sieved compost. Place on a windowsill or in a greenhouse at approximately 18-21°C (65-70°F). Germination takes 7-12 days. Transfer seedlings into individual 7.5 cm (3") pots and grow them. Plant out 8 weeks later, allowing about 75 cm (30") between plants each way. Alternatively, sow thinly direct Mar-Apr seeds into a finely raked seedbed 13 mm (1/2") deep. Plant firmly to encourage solid bud formation and stake plants in exposed gardens. Sowing time: 30 weeks.
