Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my angle grinder?
This brush has an M14 x 2 thread, which is the standard fitting on most 115mm and 125mm angle grinders sold in Ireland and the UK. Check your grinder’s spindle thread specification before purchasing — some smaller grinders use a 5/8" thread and will require a different brush.
What is a cup brush used for?
A wire cup brush is used for cleaning and surface preparation — removing rust, mill scale, old paint, weld spatter, and general contamination from metal. The cup shape focuses the wire tips on a concentrated area, making it effective for weld seams, corners, and confined spots that a flat wheel brush can’t easily reach.
Is 0.30mm wire heavy enough for my job?
0.30mm crimped wire is suited to light to medium-duty work such as cleaning bare metal prior to painting and removing surface rust. For heavier rust or more aggressive descaling on thick steel, a heavier wire gauge or a knotted wire brush may be more appropriate.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always wear safety glasses or a face shield, gloves, and appropriate PPE when using wire brushes on an angle grinder. Wire bristles can become dislodged at speed. Ensure the brush’s rated speed (12,500rpm) meets or exceeds your grinder’s no-load speed. Never exceed the maximum rated rpm.
How do I get the best results?
Avoid pressing the brush hard into the workpiece — let the wire tips do the work at the correct speed. Light, consistent pressure gives the best finish and extends brush life.
