The original French press, and still the one everyone pictures when they think of a cafetière. Coarse grounds, hot water, four minutes, press. No paper filters, no plastic pods, just a full-bodied cup with all the oils and aroma left in. The 12 cup size makes enough for a table of people or a long, slow morning.

Questions Customers Ask

How much coffee does 12 cups actually make?
Bodum measures in European cups of about 4oz each, so a 12 cup pot makes roughly 1.5 litres, not twelve mugs. Think four to six generous mugs.

How much coffee do I use?
One rounded teaspoon or one Bodum scoop of coarsely ground coffee per cup of water.

What water temperature is best?
Around 92 to 96°C, so let the kettle sit for about thirty seconds off the boil. Leave at least 2.5cm of space at the top.

How long should I brew it?
Four minutes, then lower the plunger slowly. Turning the lid closes the spout while it brews to hold the heat in.

Do I get grit in my cup?
Not if you use a coarse grind. The stainless steel plunger is designed to hold the grounds back when you pour. Fine espresso grind is the usual culprit for sludge.

Will the glass stain or hold flavours?
No. The borosilicate glass is non-stain and won't alter or impair the coffee's natural flavour.

Anything to do before first use?
Wash it in warm, soapy water and dry it thoroughly.
